People with a migration background who want to settle in Germany will sooner or later start a career. The skilled crafts offer good opportunities for starting a career and for vocational training. Skilled crafts occupations are in demand and offer solid career opportunities. Many skilled crafts businesses are open to employing people from diverse cultural backgrounds and value the range of experiences and perspectives they bring.

The project »Your future: Vocational training in the Leipzig region« gets reference persons of young people with a migration background involved so they can provide good support during the transition to working life.

What is it about?

Overcoming barriers to accessing vocational training? People who support young people with a migration background in everyday life can also play a part. The project »Your future: Vocational training in the Leipzig region«, carried out together with ZAW Zentrum für Aus- und Weiterbildung Leipzig (ZAW Leipzig – Centre for Education and Training), gets reference persons such as parents, relatives, social workers, sports coaches, etc. involved.

They are prepared for their advisory role and should support young migrants or young descendants of migrants during the transition from school to vocational training.

Target group

Reference persons who regularly interact closely with young migrants or young descendants of migrants and help shape their daily lives. This includes parents and relatives, social workers, teachers or contacts from associations/clubs, volunteers, carers, and others.

Criteria

Do you support young people with a migration background in everyday life and want to help them access vocational training? You do not need to meet any additional requirements to use our support services. Make an appointment with us or come to the project team’s open consultation hours (Tuesdays, 9:00–12:00).

Objective

  • The project is intended to help overcome barriers for young immigrants or young descendants of immigrants in accessing vocational training.
  • Important reference persons from the immediate social environment are to be trained and supported for their advisory role.
  • As advisors, the reference persons should motivate and support the young people and facilitate their transition from school to employment.
